Ingredients
- 4 Chimei buns (If regular bread, preferably day-old or slightly stale)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup coffee
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- A pinch of salt
- Butter or oil for frying
- Maple syrup, sugar and ground cinnamon for coating
Instructions
- If using frozen Chimei buns, allow them to thaw at room temp.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, coffee, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Dip the buns into the egg mixture, letting them sit for 2-3 minutes to fully absorb the flavors.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add butter or oil to coat the surface.
- Place the soaked buns onto the hot skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Once cooked, transfer the French toast to a bowl of cinnamon sugar mix. Coat well, then serve with maple syrup.
