Sumo Orange Posset

Ingredients

  • 5 Sumo oranges 
  • 2 cups heavy cream 
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste) 
  • 6 tablespoons fresh orange juice  

Instructions

  1. Juice one Sumo orange to get about 6 tablespoons of fresh juice. 
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, sugar, orange juice, and a bit of orange zest. Simmer gently over medium heat for about 8 minutes, then remove from heat. 
  3. Slice the remaining four Sumo oranges in half. Scoop out the flesh (you can save it for snacking or juice) and keep the bottom halves intact to use as serving cups. 
  4. Pour the warm cream mixture into the hollowed-out orange cups. 
  5. Refrigerate overnight until fully set. 
  6. Optional: For a crème brûlée-style finish, sprinkle sugar over the tops and use a kitchen torch to caramelize until golden and crisp.
