Two Layer Onigirazu

Ingredients

  • 2 large sheets of seaweed (nori)
  • 2 rice papers
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • ½ avocado
  • 1 tbsp furikake
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp tuna
  • 5 slices cucumber
  • 1 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Lay out the two nori sheets and lightly brush the edges with water to stick them together then lay two rice papers that are lightly soaked in water.
  2. Make a cut on one side of the sheet slightly away from the center, and another cut halfway across the other side—this will create six quadrants for folding.
  3. Add fillings to each quadrant: start with rice in the first, then cucumber, tuna, egg, avocado, and finish with rice again. (You can customize the fillings, but if using rice, start and end with rice to create a solid exterior that holds everything together.)
  4. Fold each quadrant over the fillings to form a compact sandwich.
  5. Wrap tightly with paper or plastic wrap to hold it together, then cut in half and enjoy!

  1. I can see your recipe clearly in the video. What I had hoped for was the flavor ingredients in the rice and for the tuna. I think the furikake went into the rice. Maybe scallion or cilantro also? How about the tuna? Pickles, vinegar, sugar or salt? Lime maybe? It’s a pretty sandwich with freshest ingredients but where’s the flavor bomb? Umami?
