Malatang

Ingredients

  • 3–4 cloves garlic
  • 2 slices ginger
  • 1 small (about 1-inch) mala hotpot spice block
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 bunch enoki mushrooms
  • 3–5 shrimp or beef balls
  • Bean curd
  • 5 slices lotus root
  • 4–5 slices potato
  • 2 shiitake mushrooms
  • 5 mini sausages
  • 3 pieces fried tofu
  • 2–3 bok choy
  • Cilantro
  • Instant noodles
  • Peanut sauce: 1/4 cup peanut butter + hot water + 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions

  1. In a hot pot over medium heat, add cooking oil and sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant. Add the mala seasoning packet and hotpot spice block, and stir-fry until aromatic.
  2. Pour in water and milk, then bring to a boil.
  3. Add enoki mushrooms, shrimp/beef balls, bean curd, lotus root, potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, sausages, and fried tofu. Cover and bring back to a boil.
  4. Add bok choy, cilantro, and instant noodles last.
  5. Cook for about 3 minutes, or until noodles are done.
  6. Drizzle with peanut sauce at the end and mix everything together. Enjoy!
