Ingredients
Burger
- 2 large yellow onion slices
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 beef patties or tuna patties
- 2 slices American cheese
- 2 slices mozzarella cheese
Homemade In-N-Out sauce
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- ½ tsp sugar
- ½ tsp paprika
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- Pinch of black pepper
Instructions
- Whisk together all of the spread ingredients until smooth. Set aside.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook the tuna patties according to package instructions, or smash and cook the beef patties until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add the onion slices to the pan. Season lightly with salt and pepper, then cook until softened and caramelized. Cover the pan for a few minutes to help them cook faster.
- Top each patty with a slice of American cheese and cover until melted.
- In the same pan, place the mozzarella slices and let them cook until the bottoms are golden and crispy. Carefully place a caramelized onion slice on top of each mozzarella slice, then flip so the crispy cheese wraps around the onion.
- Assemble the burger by placing one cheese-crusted onion on the bottom, spreading on a generous layer of the homemade In-N-Out spread, then stacking the two patties. Add another layer of spread and finish with the second cheese-crusted onion on top.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
